Harris wouldn't trust Trump on pre-election virus vaccine”

This year's Democratic vice-presidential nominee Kamala Harris also lashed out at Trump Saturday, saying she would not trust the president's words on the safety of any coronavirus vaccine approved for use in America before the November election.

In an interview with CNN - excerpts of which were released on Saturday - the Democratic vice-presidential nominee warned of the potential for political interference by the U.S. president over the approval of a coronavirus vaccine in order to boost his re-election chances. "I would not trust Donald Trump", Harris said, saying she would be convinced of the efficacy of a vaccine only if someone credible were vouching for it as well.

The head of world-renowned medical journal Lancet on Friday denounced Trump's statement on the timing of a rollout for a U.S. COVID-19 vaccine as "simply wrong".

"I will not take his word for it", added Kamala Harris, Democratic candidate for the vice-presidency.

At least 6.2 million people have been infected in the US coronavirus outbreak, which has taken 187,833 lives, according to a tally.

In an interview with The Financial Times on Sunday, Stephen Hahn, the commissioner of FDA said that he was ready to allow "emergency use" for a coronavirus vaccine, even before stage 3 of the human trials come to a close.

The White House did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment.

CNN reported Thursday that Trump has actually pressed administration health authorities to speed up the vaccine's advancement in an effort to persuade citizens of an upcoming end to the pandemic threatening his reelection.
