Not to be-Labour Day the point about COVID

Not to be-Labour Day the point about COVID”

Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Williams said he's concerned about COVID-19 cases linked to socializing, and is urging everyone to maintain their social bubbles and follow all other public health measures.

The range of fresh COVID-19 diseases in Ontario continues to grow 169 brand new instances reported from provincial health officials now.

Newly confirmed infections primarily in Peel and Toronto have been driving an upward trend in the five-day rolling average of daily cases in the province, which has been rising since a low on August 9.

In total, Ontario now has 43,003 of COVID-19 cases since the pandemic started, while Ottawa tallies in at 3,052.

Public health officials in Ottawa confirmed another 30 cases of COVID-19 Saturday, the highest one-day total reported this month.

"So the weekend? Enjoy, be careful", Williams said Thursday.

The slow but steady increase in numbers comes days before the bulk of Ontario students prepare to head back to class under conditions that have generated reactions from scorn to alarm among parents and educators alike.

Of today's new cases, 41 are individuals between 20 and 39 years old, 42 are individuals between 40 and 59 years old, and 19 are youth aged 19 and under.

Christine Elliott says in a tweet that 72 of the new diagnoses are in Peel Region, long one of the provincial hotspots for the novel coronavirus.

Premier Doug Ford previously said that the rise in cases in Peel and more specifically Brampton is a real concern.

Williams said that people not following public health guidelines is a "concerning issue" and is pleading with Ontarians to "stay the task".

The province has completed more than three million tests for COVID-19 since the beginning of the outbreak.
