Owen Farrell red-carded for 'horrific' high challenge”

Saracens captain Owen Farrell could miss their Heineken Champions Cup quarter-final against Leinster after being sent off for a horror tackle this afternoon.

As you can see below, Farrell's swinging arm catches Atkinson and he deservedly saw the red card moments later.

Leo Cullen's side host the reigning European champions on 19 September at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

"I watched it live but have not watched it on the video", said Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall. He got that slightly wrong'.

The former Ireland global added: "It is what it is".

However, they had retained a number of top players and qualified for the Champions Cup quarter-finals as eighth seeds.

'We have got plenty of good backs at the club so we will just rearrange our backline a little bit and get on with it'.

"He works really hard on all parts of his game and he has improved in that area. We hope the player he hit is OK".

Farrell doesn't exactly have the best of reputations when it comes to his tackle technique with the outhalf infamous for leading with his shoulder far more often than not.

It is not the first controversial incident that Farrell has been involved in, with the flyhalf escaping punishment for a similarly unsafe no-arms tackle on Springbok centre Andre Esterhuizen in 2018.
