'Tenet' Brings in Over $20 Million at the U.S”

"Tenet" has the widest domestic release of any film since the start of the pandemic with 2,810 locations, as distributors report that approximately 70% of the entire USA theater circuit has reopened. Overall internationally, Tenet has exceeded expectations. Few onlookers felt it was possible to gauge how Tenet would open.

In other domestic box office news, Disney's The New Mutants, which only brought in $800k on Friday - dropping almost 75% since its debut - will generate $3.5 million through Labor Day.

The studio is hoping to at the least cross the $450 million mark worldwide. and with its worldwide take of $100 million this week. And with little on the horizon, Warner counting on a long run for Tenet.

Not in the film's favor: Audiences didn't love Nolan's latest time-bender. Moviegoers gave the thriller, starring John David Washington, Robert Pattinson and Elizabeth Debicki, a B CinemaScore, the lowest grade for a Nolan release since 2006's The Prestige.

Hollywood is watching closely.

Disney's long-awaited live-action flick "Mulan", based on the legend of an ancient Chinese heroine of the same name, is set for release in China on September 11, just one week after "Tenet". But Mulan is also playing in theaters in some overseas territories.

Along with the U.S., "Tenet" was also released in China, where it faced stiff competition from local hit "The Eight Hundred". "Mulan" will be released theatrically next weekend in China, a country long considered to be critical to the film's box office. Several prominent film critics said they wouldn't review Tenet over ethical concerns. After a dark summer that noticed theaters remain shut down because of the pandemic. The large design exhibitor represented 5,000,000 bucks of the film's field office. It has grossed $146 million since last weekend. That pushes the Marvel horror film's global total to just over $20 million.
