Djokovic, Osaka into fourth round at US Open”

At 22 years of age, Stefanos is still trying to win his first slam and unfortunately he just missed an important opportunity at the recent US Open after losing an impossible match against Borna Coric.

Novak Djokovic sailed into the last 16 of the US Open on Friday as off-court intrigue forced the delay of a men's singles match over issues linked to novel coronavirus (Covid-19).

Third round: 28-Jennifer Brady (US) bt Caroline Garcia (France) 6-3, 6-3; 17-Angelique Kerber (Germany) bt Ann Li (US) 6-3, 6-4; 23-Yulia Putintseva (Kazakhstan) bt Aliaksandra Sasnovich (Belarus) 3-6, 6-2, 6-1; 8-Petra Martic (Croatia) bt Varvara Gracheva (Russia) 6-3, 6-3; 4-Naomi Osaka (Japan) bt Marta Kostyuk (Ukraine) 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 6-2; 14-Anett Kontaveit (Estonia) bt 24-Magda Linette (Poland) 6-3, 6-2; Shelby Rogers (US) bt Madison Brengle (US) 6-2, 6-4; 6-Petra Kvitova (Czech Republic) bt Jessica Pegula (US) 6-4, 6-3. Two-time Grand Slam victor Osaka was challenged in the third round by eighteen-year-old Marta Kostyuk, who is playing her second major tournament.

Tsitsipas is the highest-ranked men's singles player to exit the tournament so far, while Coric's reward for the hard-fought victory is a fourth-round tie against Australian Jordan Thompson, who has never before got this far in a Grand Slam.

A total of 11 American women reached the third round of singles in this US Open, the most since 1992 and most at a Grand Slam since 1994 Wimbledon.

In the fifth set tiebreak then, Coric kept up the heat and won the match 6-7 (2), 6-4, 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (4).

"It's weird. Definitely weird". Nobody could hear it that well because the people are gone (laughter). "Oh, no, that's too much'".

Meanwhile, Zverev was spotted by television cameras reclined in his Arthur Ashe Stadium suite, shirtless, looking like a lounger enjoying a day at the beach, when he should have been on court playing. "And it's good", he said. "Like, I'm kind of scared of how she's going to be in the future".

Naomi Osaka has moved into the fourth round of the U.S. Open by getting past 18-year-old Marta Kostyuk 6-3, 6-7 (4), 6-2.

"I have great memories, and it's a special tournament for me, especially because I won it here once. Hopefully I'll be able to continue the good performance that I had tonight".

The players this time around?

Zverev moved into the fourth round, where Alejandro Davidovich Fokina awaits.

Tsitsipas comes to terms with that five-set defeat.

The tournament, which is being played behind closed doors, continues tomorrow, with an all-American clash between Serena Williams and Sloane Stephens one of the main attractions.

On the same court under lights, second seed Dominic Thiem will face a tough test against 2014 US Open champion Marin Cilic, while on Armstrong, No.2 seed Sofia Kenin takes on Ons Jabeur in an AO 2020 quarterfinal rematch.
