Microsofts $10bn JEDI Contract Win Reaffirmed, Amazon To Protest”

The Pentagon made its demand to review the cloud award after Federal Claims Judge Patricia Campbell-Smith composed in March that the Defense Department may have misjudged part of Microsoft's rates ...

Soon after a monthslong investigation by the Pentagon, the Department of Defense explained Friday that it's sticking with Microsoft for its $10 billion cloud computing deal.

Amazon Web Services, a market leader in providing cloud computing services, had always been considered a leading candidate to run the Pentagon's Joint Enterprise Defence Infrastructure project, known as Jedi.

However, while numerous specialists highlighted a potential success for Amazon upon revaluation, it would appear that the online business goliath will once more leave with nothing.

Since then, the battle between Amazon and Microsoft was going on to win this $10 billion contract.

The announcement comes roughly a year after the DoD made its original decision to offer Microsoft the bid but was unable to crown the company as the official victor due to Amazon's legally issued objections.

Amazon, with its practically 48% market share in the world wide cloud computing sector, was long viewed as to be the distinct frontrunner until eventually the process's remaining section. On Friday, the Department of Defense said in an explanation that it "has finished its extensive re-assessment of the JEDI Cloud recommendations and discovered that Microsoft's proposition keeps on speaking to the best an incentive to the Government". Given the DoD did not agree to meaningfully review the many evaluation flaws outlined in our protest, we said the corrective action was likely to result in another contract award based on politics and improper influence and not based on the relative strengths of the two offerings.

Accordingly, Amazon's distributed computing arm, Amazon Web Services, attacked the DoD and Trump in a searing post to its open segment blog, calling the administration's examination "just an endeavor to approve a defective, one-sided, and politically ruined choice".

However, the US Defense Department (DoD) said that "contract performance" by Microsoft (MSFT) will not start immediately due to the preliminary injunction order issued by the Court of Federal Claims on February 13, after Amazon lost out and filed a lawsuit to challenge the contract process. "Unfortunately, the DoD rejected that opportunity", the post continues.

"We strongly disagree with the DoD's flawed evaluation and believe it's critical for our country that the government and its elected leaders administer procurements objectively and in a manner that is free from political influence", it said.

A Microsoft spokesperson said in a statement that the Pentagon confirmed that the company "offered the right technology and the best value". "Although these are not easy decisions to make, and we do not take them lightly, we will not back down in the face of targeted political cronyism or illusory corrective actions, and we will continue pursuing a fair, objective, and impartial review", it said.
