Multiple stabbings in Birmingham city centre

Multiple stabbings in Birmingham city centre”

He is also wearing dark-coloured pants and shoes and can be seen standing and walking on a street corner.

Officers have been unable to confirm speculation that gunshots were heard in the area in and around the time of the stabbings.

West Midlands Police confirmed the man in the CCTV images is wanted on suspicion of murder.

"At this stage we believe that the attacks were random and we have no indication of a motive".

Six people, including a police officer, were then injured at a hotel housing asylum seekers in the Scottish city of Glasgow.

- Labour Leader Keir Starmer tweeted: "As we wait for news on the major incident in Birmingham overnight, all our thoughts are with the victims and anyone else affected".

Police hunting a man suspected of killing one person and injuring seven others in stabbings across Birmingham city centre say they have had a "strong response" after releasing CCTV footage. Violence broke out at about 12:30 am (2330 GMT Saturday) in and around the Arcadian Centre, a popular venue filled with restaurants, nightclubs and bars.

The force's police and crime commissioner David Jamieson labelled the assaults "disturbing", with the violence unfolding as revellers had been enjoying the night.

He said there was no suggestion that the attacks were targeted at any section of the community or were gang related.

The knife attack took place in the early hours of Sunday morning, with seven people injured in the incident.

Emergency services were rushed to the spot to carry out rescue operations.

"But, notwithstanding that, Birmingham is a good place, it's a good place to be, it's a safe city and it is regrettable that this bad incident happened last night".

'At this stage it would not be appropriate to speculate on the causes of the incident'.

"The emergency services have well-rehearsed plans for dealing with major incidents".

- They also received reports of an incident in the nearby Livery Street.

Cara Curran, a club promoter, said she saw multiple people fighting in the street.

"She started screaming: "He's stabbing me", Sfrantziz said, saying that bystanders were initially slow to act because they thought the suspect was only robbing her for a necklace.

Police said extras officers had "flooded" the city centre, with four scenes being held and examined by forensic experts throughout the day.

Mr Nash said the person was "calm" and walking unhurriedly, until someone shouted the alarm.

Another witness to the chaotic scenes described seeing paramedics treating a woman on the ground.

"It does appear to be a random attack", he said.

He added: "We don't know who the subject is".

"I think at this point in time we don't know too much more than that other than to say the public should be very vigilant". "You may see a greater police presence in the area".

Mr Jamieson, who has been West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner since 2014, said the stabbings were "truly awful and have shocked the people of Birmingham, the West Midlands and the country".
