US Open: Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic withdrawn from doubles

US Open: Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic withdrawn from doubles”

Kristina Mladenovic was prevented from playing her second-round doubles match at the US Open on Saturday and ordered to quarantine in her hotel room. Mannarino played three singles matches before being eliminated; Mladenovic played two singles matches and a doubles match.

Mladenovic was one of seven players who had been operating under enhanced health and safety protocols after being contact traced to French player Benoit Paire, who withdrew last week after testing positive for COVID-19.

The Nassau County Department of Health would not provide a timeline to ABC News, but said the order was issued once the department was made aware of the contact.

After a first-round singles win Monday, Mladenovic called her ordeal in NY a "nightmare".

Mladenovic has not been so fortunate, and a statement from tournament organisers read: "Public health officials of Nassau County, (New York), have issued quarantine notices for all individuals who had prolonged close contact to a person who previously tested positive for the COVID-19 coronavirus". Since the players are staying in Nassau County, which borders New York City, the USTA said public health officials prevented those who were in contact with Paire from travelling to Flushing Meadows where the Grand Slam is being held.

"The USTA is obligated to adhere to government guidance at the State, City and County level", the body said. All people who have been in prolonged contact with the infected player will have to remain in their rooms for the remainder of the forty period.

Hungary's Timea Babos slammed the "injustice" of her exclusion from the US Open on Sunday, a day after she and doubles partner Kristina Mladenovic were kicked out of the tournament.

The match between Frenchman Adrian Mannarino, another of those facing restrictions, and Alexander Zverev was delayed for almost three hours on Friday but Mannarino was eventually allowed to play. That September 12th date is 14 days after the players played cards with Paire, who tested positive for Coronavirus. That was the policy during the first event in this "double-in-the-bubble" production, the Western & Southern Open.

French Fed Cup hero Mladenovic blew a 6-1, 5-1 lead and four match points suffering an epic collapse in the US Open second round.

"Me and my team just said, 'Tap the f-- in, ' " Tiafoe said with a shake of his head after his win, still visibly amped up.

"I was asking myself a lot of questions", she said. She also told reporters she had then been placed into the tournament's enhanced protocol plan - or as she put it, the "bubble in the bubble".

"We have to fight to have our freedom and even that we don't have yet". "I feel like we are prisoners here". For the slightest movement, you have to ask permission, while we are tested every day, we have had thirty negative tests! "The others close to him have never tested positive".
