Henderson tied with Korda at LPGA ANA Inspiration

Henderson tied with Korda at LPGA ANA Inspiration”

She chipped in three times, including at the 18th, during a five-under 67 in the final round.

But the 22-year-old American's march slowed with a bogey at the fifth, followed by a double-bogey at the par-four sixth where her wedge out of the rough failed to clear the water.

Mirim Lee snatched a dramatic victory at the ANA Inspiration as she edged out long-time leader Nelly Korda and Brooke Henderson at the first play-off hole.

Lee, who claimed the last of her three LPGA titles at the 2017 Kia Classic, had four birdies and three birdies in her one-under 71.

"It was a bit disappointing having the bogey on 17, so my plan for 18 was just to have a birdie and do what I have to do to keep my head up", she added.

"I was just trying to move up as much as I could, make a lot of birdies", said Henderson, who is chasing her second major title. Her birdie putt missed on the left side.

On their first trip back to the 18th in the sudden death affair, Lee and Henderson were safely in the fairway off the tee, while Korda pulled her drive into the left rough.

"Mi-rim played great today and so did Nelly".

Korda began to claw her way back with a birdie on the par-5 11th, a gap wedge to 3 feet for birdie on the 12th and a pitching wedge just over the bunker that rolled out to 5 feet for birdie on the 15th, regaining a share of the lead.

But Korda, daughter of former Australian Open tennis champion Petr Korda, saw her game become a little ragged around the turn as she mixed three bogeys with two birdies in an up-and-down five-hole stretch, with Henderson matching her two at the 11th to stay tied for the lead. But that was the last birdie she made.

Ten players were separated by four shots, a group that included Carlota Ciganda at 9-under 207 and former Mission Hills victor Stacy Lewis another shot back.

Amateur Olivia Mehaffey also shot a 76 and she finished on +13.

Ko mixed seven birdies with a solitary bogey, finishing with consecutive birdies as she shot the back nine in 32. No matter. She was tied for the lead, more than she would have expected when she teed off. And while she viewed this round as moving day, Sunday might not be much different with so many players still in the mix.

"To be honest, I feel like I must be a little insane for winning and for having won this, and I think I'll be able to feel it once I meet my family and reunite with them", added lee, who claimed her fourth LPGA victory and her first since the 2017 Kia Classic.

Thompson won the ANA Inspiration in 2014 and, like Henderson, is bidding for a second major crown.

"It's so stinking hot out here and it would be great to cool off, " Kirk said.
