PM Khan Calls a High-Level Meeting with the Cricket Board

PM Khan Calls a High-Level Meeting with the Cricket Board”

Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan witnessed the signing ceremony along with the PCB chairman, PTV chairman, and Special Assistant to the PM on Information Lt Gen (retd) Asim Saleem Bajwa. The PCB said it expects to earn in excess of US$200 million over three years. The previous deal, with Sony-owned Ten Sports, was worth only $12 million a year for a period of five years, between 2015-20.

As per ESPNCricinfo, the tour is now looking "imminent" as Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani said that he is "hopeful" of getting the clearance to "travel to Pakistan".

Pakistan team's performance during the England tour and the current domestic structure is believed to be made a part of the discussion in the meeting. "Unfortunately, due to a myriad reasons [that I don't want to discuss right now], our national broadcaster lagged behind the rest of the world". "Accordingly, the broadcasting agreement is only for Pakistan, while the PCB is soon to finalize the grant of its broadcasting rights to global territories and It will also launch a new framework for its digital media rights".

The prime minister expressed satisfaction that the collaboration between the PCB and the PTV would cater to the needs of cricket viewers through quality and live broadcast of the matches. "At the moment nothing has been finalised", the PCB official said.

Also, for the first time, all the major domestic tournaments, including the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, the National T20 Cup, the One Day Pakistan Cup and the National U-19 One-Day and National U-19 Three Day tournaments, will be broadcast on the channel.

To compete with the world, Akram said, infrastructural reforms were important in cricket and other sports, including hockey, squash etc.

Mirror tried to reach Sony officials, but they were not immediately available for comment.

The flip-side to the mega deal with PTV, Pakistan insiders say, are the cable operators, who are apparently not very 'honest.' The common viewer will have to deal with the operators to watch their favourite sport.
