'Poisoned' Putin critic Navalny shares hospital photo of himself”

Navalny posted a photo on Instagram of himself awake and sitting up, surrounded by his wife and two children, in a bed at Berlin's the Charité hospital where he has been treated for the poisoning with a Novichok nerve agent.

A fierce critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Navalny fell violently sick in Siberia last month and was airlifted to a Berlin hospital.

The Kremlin has denied any involvement in the poisoning, though it has used Novichok in other high-profile incidents.

Separately, Navalny's spokeswoman Kira Yarmysh tweeted that once he has recovered, Navalny plans to return to Russian Federation, where he has supported opposition candidates and waged anti-corruption battles.

Moscow called the accusations groundless and a government spokesperson claimed the country was being unfairly targeted, putting further strain on relations between Russian Federation and the West.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, asked about possible repercussions for the Nord Stream 2 pipeline due to bring Russian gas to Germany, said it was wrong to link that to the Navalny case. On Monday, the Charité issued a statement that Navalny's condition "continues to improve" and that he was now able to get out of bed and was beginning to try to move around. Germany says he was poisoned by a Novichok nerve agent.

"This is a commercial project that is absolutely in line with the interests of both Russian Federation and European Union countries, and primarily Germany", Peskov said. On Monday, the German government said independent tests by labs in France and Sweden backed up its findings.

Russian Federation says "disinformation" and "hysteria" are being used to justify possible further sanctions against Moscow.

Lavrov said Navalny's life was saved by the pilots of the plane who quickly landed in Omsk after he collapsed on board and by the rapid action of doctors there.

In a phone call Tuesday with German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, Lavrov warned him against politicizing the situation with Navalny, the Russian Foreign Ministry said. "The fact that the case would not be investigated in Russian Federation was quite obvious", the post says.

Berlin has rejected suggestions from Moscow that it is dragging its heels on sharing evidence.

British Foreign Minister Dominic Raab said during a visit to Washington: "From the UK's point of view, (it's) very hard to see any plausible alternative explanation to this being carried out by the Russian intelligence services, but certainly the Russian government has a case to answer".

"No signs of toxins were found in the system of Alexei Navalny; there were none", Naryshkin said.

"Great news that he will be back", Gudkov said. "Therefore, we have many questions to the German side", Naryshkin was quoted by the state news agency TASS.

Most of Germany's political parties have joined Merkel in calling for an investigation, but leaders in the far-right Alternative for Germany, known for its pro-Russian sympathies, have said Berlin should not be involved. On Tuesday it invited media to a discussion with a Russian parliamentarian on "the Russian view of the Navalny case".
