Ontario making bars and restaurants close earlier, shuts down strip clubs

Ontario making bars and restaurants close earlier, shuts down strip clubs”

The Ontario government is slapping tighter restrictions on restaurants and bars, as well as ordering strips clubs to close, in an effort to crackdown on "outbreak clusters" of COVID-19.

Drinking alcohol at these establishments after 12 am is prohibited until 9 am.

All establishments must be closed between the hours of midnight and 5 a.m. except for takeout and delivery.

The province just announced that it has amended its reopening act rules to allow for a tightening of restrictions on bars and restaurants across Ontario, as well as the temporary closure of all strip clubs.

Sixty locations across the province were approved to offer the COVID-19 test, but the Ontario government said more locations would soon be added to offer testing with online booking.

Health Minister Christine Elliott said Friday the eligibility requirements around pharmacy testing were to ensure priority groups could have quick access to tests.

Businesses and organizations are also required to comply with advice, recommendations and instructions issued by the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health for COVID-19 screening, including screening people entering the premises.

"By prohibiting the sale of alcohol after 11 pm, and requiring establishments to close by midnight, these measures will help reduce late-night socializing and close contact that can facilitate virus transmission". "If we put in place real measures to keep people safe, and stay committed to each doing our part, we can still prevent a staggering second wave in our city".

"Over the past five weeks, Ontario has experienced an increase in the rate of new COVID-19 cases", provincial health officials said in a statement.

"Locally, there are 131 new cases in Toronto with 110 in Peel and 45 in Ottawa".
