Google Hangouts, Doordash, Nest, Drive and Gmail were all affected.

Gmail and other Google services last experienced significant issues on August 20, when Google acknowledged issues sending emails, creating files in Google Drive and posting messages in Google Chat.

When asked about the impact of the outage, a Google Cloud spokesperson presented the subsequent non-response: "We have experted a short services disruption impacting many items such as G Suite, and are now recovering from it".

"Please try again in 30 seconds".

The outage is first reported by the Downdetector, its service provided by Okla.

According to technology site Gizmodo, the trouble started at 9pm EDT (11am BST).

Many Google customers went to social media to express frustration.

San Francisco: As soon as Google users in the USA experienced a widespread service disruption on Thursday evening, the search engine giant shared a brief technical explanation of what happened.

Gracie, a Boston College student in the United States, tweeted a cartoon of crying in a picture.

She accompanied this with the caption: "When google docs is down and you lost your whole essay so you go to email your professor that you might not be able to turn it in but gmail is also down".

Another Twitter user commented: "What else could go wrong".

Students were left complaining on social media as the Google Classroom feature is unable to load. These services include Google Meet, Drive, Docs, Analytics, Classroom and Calendar, for example.

When contacted by The New York Times, Google did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Google's engineers aren't having a good day today.

Google is widely regarded as the "Big Four" tech company alongside Microsoft, Amazon and Apple.
