Breonna Taylor cops knocked three times, grand jury testimony reveals”

Taylor, a 26-year-old EMT and aspiring nurse, was fatally shot in her Louisville apartment in March by officers executing a drug warrant.

A law enforcement officer testified in the grand jury proceedings of the Breonna Taylor case that police never actually ended up executing the search warrant at her home. But on Wednesday, his office asked for a week's extension to edit out personal information from the material.

A notice of the filing was made with the Jefferson County Circuit Court Clerk, and the 20-plus hours of audio recordings were attached. It includes at least two interviews with Detective Myles Cosgrove, whose gun an Federal Bureau of Investigation forensics lab identified as the weapon that fired the bullet that killed Taylor in March. "Knocked again, said police, waited even longer", Hoover said in an interview recorded the same day Taylor was shot, and later played for the grand jury. He said not recording them was "customary".

It's a key issue because the officers said they opened fire after Taylor's boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, fired a gunshot at them. "And then I said, 'Let's go, let's breach it"'.

"While there are six possible homicide charges under Kentucky law, these charges are not applicable to the facts before us because our investigation showed, and the grand jury agreed, that Mattingly and Cosgrove were justified in the return of deadly fire after having been fired upon by Kenneth Walker", Cameron said.

The grand jury audio is being released as part of the case against former Det. By standing in front of the press and public and saying, "the grand jury has spoken", the prosecutor insulates him or herself from criticism that they did not bring charges against the defendant.

"Cameron said neither the prosecutors" recommendations nor the jury's deliberations were recorded "as they are not evidence".

On March 13, three police Officers - Myles Cosgrove, Brett Hankison and Jonathan Mattingly - entered Taylor's apartment after obtaining the no-knock warrant.

A neighbor of Breonna Taylor told investigators that police told her that "some drug-dealing girl shot an officer" after officers entered Taylor's apartment on the night of March 13.

"We didn't know who it was", Walker said in his own police interview shortly after the shooting.

Cameron insisted a grand jury is meant to be a secretive body, but relented it's "apparent that the public interest in this case isn't going to allow that to happen".

Citing the secrecy of the hearing, Cameron declined to say if the grand jury was presented, beyond the recommended wanton endangerment counts, with options to consider homicide charges, including manslaughter and reckless homicide. They noted, for instance, that Taylor's name does not appear in the indictment.
