Donald, Melania Trump in quarantine after testing positive for coronavirus”

U.S. President Donald Trump and his wife, Melania, have tested positive for the coronavirus and will quarantine, he wrote on Twitter early on Friday. However, "I expect the president to continue carrying out his duties without disruption while recovering".

Hicks travels regularly with the president on Air Force One and, along with other senior aides, accompanied him to OH for the presidential debate on Tuesday and to Minnesota for a campaign event on Wednesday.

The positive test reading for the leader of the world's largest economy heaps uncertainty onto a growing pile of unknowns investors are grappling with, first among them how it might affect the November 3 election and American policies on trade, tariffs and many other issues beyond then.

News of Hicks' positive test comes amid continued efforts by the Trump administration to blatantly disregard science and best public health practices during the pandemic, with West Wing staff actively eschewing masks and the President defying recommendations from his own coronavirus task force, proceeding with a busy schedule of packed campaign ralies.

"The White House medical team and I will maintain a vigilant watch and appreciate the support provided by some of our country's greatest medical professionals and institutions", Dr. Sean Conley, physician to the president, said.

In July, Trump's national security adviser, Robert O'Brien, tested positive.

The news came hours after Hope Hicks, a top and closest aide to Trump, was confirmed to have tested positive for Covid-19. "I spent a lot of time with Hope and so does the first lady, and she's tremendous". Photos taken by the Associated Press on Wednesday show Hicks was in close proximity of several other senior staffers, including Jared Kushner, Stephen Miller and Dan Scavino. "But I wear a mask when needed. He could be speaking 200 feet away from them and he shows up with the biggest mask I've ever seen". Every time you see him he has a mask.

"They plan to remain home at the White House during their convalescence", he said.

The President and his wife Melania are now in quarantine in the White House.

The NYT reports: "The White House did not say how long Mr. Trump would have to remain isolated, but it canceled his plans to fly to Florida for a campaign rally on Friday, stripping his public schedule for the day of everything except a midday telephone call 'on Covid-19 support to vulnerable seniors.' Appearances at rallies in Wisconsin on Saturday and in Arizona on Monday also appear sure to be scrapped, and the next debate, scheduled for October 15 in Miami, was left up in the air". Hicks returned to the White House earlier this year after a stint in the private sector.

The next course of action for the President and the First Lady was not immediately clear as he has events scheduled for Friday in Florida and Saturday in Wisconsin. "We will get through this TOGETHER!" "We are feeling good & I have postponed all upcoming engagements".
