Driver who died at Elvington Airfield named as Zef Eisenberg”

A millionaire fitness firm founder was killed attempting a British land speed record.

The founder of health supplement firm Maximuscle, Eisenberg was driving a Porsche 911 Turbo S auto at Elvington Airfield in Yorkshire, northern England, when he lost control of the vehicle.

"Our thoughts are with the driver's family, who have been informed, the organisers of the event, and other members of the motorsport community present".

Motorsport UK released a statement after the crash, to say they were "deeply saddened to announce that a fatal accident occurred this afternoon at Elvington Airfield during a British Land Speed Record attempt".

The 47-year-old presented ITV 4 show Speed Freaks and also appeared on other motorsport programmes.

Mr Eisenberg ran the Madmax Race Team, which attempts speed records with motorbikes and cars.

A spokesman for UK Motorsport, the governing body, said: "Yesterday at Elvington Airfield, Zef was attempting to break the British Land Speed Record in a Porsche 911 Turbo S, at an event organised by Straightliners Ltd/UKTA".

"Zef leaves behind his partner Mirella D'Antonio and two children".

"Motorsport UK, together with the event organiser and the local police, has begun a full investigation into the circumstances of the incident".

Eisenberg was told he would never be able to walk again but he recovered and a few months later returned to the airfield.

He also holds the Guinness World Record (two way average in a mile) for the fastest turbine-powered motorbike at 225.4 miles per hour and naked motorbike (no fairing) in Britain - also at 225.4mph.

Eisenberg broke the speed record for the "flying mile" at Penfield Sands in 2019, breaking a time set by actor Idris Elba four years earlier.

The businessman, who left school after his GCSEs, founded Maximuscle in 1995.

Eisenberg eventually sold the company to pharmaceutical giant Glaxosmithkline in 2011 for $209 million.

Mr Eisenberg also presented ITV4 show Speed Freaks, which was aired a year ago.

"He will be missed enormously by everyone who worked with him and our condolences go to his friends and family".
