Trump to head back to White House after COVID-19 hospital stay

Trump to head back to White House after COVID-19 hospital stay”

"I will be leaving the great Walter Reed Medical Center today at 6:30pm (9:30am AEST)", he said earlier today on Twitter.

President Trump reportedly stated that he feels "real good" when asked for an update from Voice of America White House bureau chief Steve Herman.

"We have developed, under the Trump administration, some really great drugs and knowledge".

Trump returned to the White House in a helicopter after spending several days at Walter Reed Medical Center battling Covid-19.

He would not reveal details of lung scans.

White House physician Dr Sean Conley, about half an hour after Trump tweeted his release announcement, told reporters in the afternoon that the president had "continued to improve" over the past 24 hours and "met or exceeded all standard hospital discharge criteria".

Doctors at Walter Reed have been treating him with a steroid, dexamethasone, that is normally used only in the most severe COVID-19 cases.

On Sunday evening, he also took a brief joyride outside the hospital to thank a large crowd of Trump voters who gathered over the weekend, a move that was criticized for unnecessarily exposing his Secret Service agents.

Trump "may not entirely be out of the woods" but the rest of his care can safely be performed at the White House, Conley said.

Critics slammed the drive-by photo op, saying he dismissed United States public health guidelines and put Secret Service agents in harm's way.

However, news that White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany has also tested positive for Covid-19, showed just how infected his circle has become, as he battles for re-election on November 3. More than a dozen attendees of that event have since tested positive for the virus.

PREMIUM TIMES reported how the 74-year-old, who is vying for reelection, and his wife, Melania Trump, contracted coronavirus.

The virus has killed almost 210,000 Americans.
