Six militia members plotted to kidnap Mich. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer

Six militia members plotted to kidnap Mich. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer”

Officials in MI said that the plan was to "instigate a civil war".

Michigan's Governor blames President Donald Trump for the botched kidnapping and shifted the news conference to focus in on COVID-19, Your Content has learned.

"When our leaders meet with, encourage and fraternize with domestic terrorists they legitimize their actions, and they are complicit", Whitmer said.

"Through electronic communications, Croft and Fox agreed to unite others in their cause and take violent action against multiple state governments that they believe are violating the US Constitution", including the government of MI and Whitmer, according to the complaint.

"My Justice Department and Federal Law Enforcement announced today that they foiled a risky plot against the Governor of MI".

"Hate groups heard the president's words not as a rebuke, but as a rallying cry", said Whitmer.

A raid on a property in southeastern MI is tied to a scheme to kidnap Michigan's governor, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The six men named in the federal complaint - Adam Fox, Barry Croft, Ty Garbin, Kaleb Franks, Daniel Harris and Brandon Caserta - could face life in prison if convicted on charges of attempting to kidnap Whitmer.

Fox and Croft, in particular, discussed detonating bombs as a diversionary tactic, "and Fox even inspected the underside of a MI highway bridge for places to seat an explosive", Andrew Birge, U.S. attorney for the western district of MI, told a briefing.

The seven men charged in state court are accused of identifying the homes of law enforcement officers and making violent threats "intended to instigate a civil war", Attorney General Dana Nessel said.

"Just last week, the president of the United States stood before the American people and refused to condemn white supremacists and hate groups like these two MI militia groups", Whitmer said at a press conference. It would appear some supporter think it's worth another shot, she said.

"Once you've moved from just a bunch of guys blowing off steam to training exercises across multiple jurisdictions, and really heavily investing time, energy and effort... now we have to take it very seriously", she said.

In April 2020, President Trump, defying the advice of public health experts, egged on opponents of Gov. Whitmer's stay-at-home order, created to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

The video was posted in June, after Trump repeatedly attacked Whitmer over her coronavirus restrictions.

Trump had shown his support for the protests several days earlier, tweeting "Liberate Michigan," and continued to criticize Whitmer.

These arrests come after a tumultuous year in MI, where the capitol was stormed by heavily armed right-wing militia members protesting the state's stay at home order in May.

"I don't know, boys, we gotta do something".

According to the details of the scheme revealed by law enforcement, the men allegedly involved surveilled Whitmer's home, purchased equipment and tested explosive devices as part of their planning.

Michigan Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey (R-Clarklake) released a statement saying, "A threat against our Governor is a threat against us all".
