Ontario is reporting its highest number of new daily reported COVID-19 cassia and it's creeping up towards 1,000.

For Ontario, that's nearly an 18 per cent increase since Thursday's report.

This brings the new total up to 1,881 for the region since March.

In the Outaouais, there were 53 new cases reported, the highest one-day total since the 66 cases reported Monday.

In Manitoba, health officials reported two more deaths from COVID-19, as well as 97 new cases.

The province is also reporting five new deaths due to the virus today.

There have now been 58,490 lab-confirmed cases in the province, with 49,732 resolved.

There are 358 new cases among those 20-39 years old, the most of any age group.

The reports from OPH don't necessarily reflect how many people tested positive for COVID-19 on the day they're made public; rather, they indicate the number of new cases OPH is notified of as of 2 p.m. the previous day.

The Health Department reported a total of 22 additional COVID-19 deaths, four that occurred within the past 24 hours and 18 from earlier.

There have been 5,365 lab-confirmed cases, and 4,132 of those are resolved.

3 cases are now hospitalized. That means just over 75 per cent of Ottawa's cases have been cleared. The region's death toll remains unchanged at 34.

As of Wednesday, the most recent day for which data is available, active cases of COVID-19 had been reported at 774 public and private school, with 1,451 students and 318 staff members now affected.
