In response, the province was set to expand restrictions in almost all the regions along the St. Lawrence River between Montreal and Quebec City on Saturday night.

The 2.1 per cent positivity rate is the highest it has recorded since June 7. As of 8:05 a.m. Friday, there were 37 schools with a COVID-19 case, with 41 students and 10 staff infected.

In K-12 schools across Ontario, there are 56 new cases of COVID-19. Since they reopened in September, there have been 876 total cases among 429 learning institutions. Should the Province have closed gyms?

Of those now infected patients, 2,325 are in Toronto, 970 in Ottawa and 877 in Peel Region and 540 in York. Hospitalizations rose by 11 to 444, and six more people were in intensive care, for a total of 73.

The news comes just over a week after provincial officials warned that new case counts would surge past 1,000 in the early part of October.

The region has had 1,745 cases of COVID-19 and 34 deaths since the pandemic began.

The government also reported seven new deaths related to the virus.

In the city, 875 cases remain active, but resolved cases are now at 3,978.

In the latest 24-hour stretch, four more Quebecers have died. It leaves the death toll at 5,936.

We now have 225 COVID-19 patients in the hospital and 47 are in the ICU.

Quebec's testing numbers are reflective of its output from two days prior.
