With a record number of COVID-19 cases announced on October 9, Premier Doug Ford and the Conservatives made an emergency announcement wherein they imposed additional restrictions on regions that have seen a significant spike in cases.

A fifth unrelated case was also reported.

It's the 12th straight day the province has exceeded the 500-case mark. Throughout the province, there are now 8,572 currently infected patients, which includes 433 in hospital (up by eight since Thursday) and 67 in intensive care (down by one).

Meanwhile, Quebec's health authorities reporting 1,102 new cases of COVID-19 Friday, bringing the total number of cases in the province up to 84,094.

Toronto, Peel, and Ottawa are being moved back to a "modified stage two" level for at least the next 28 days. One new death was reported, and 297 deaths have now been attributed to coronavirus in Ottawa.

The Toronto District School Board updates its information on current COVID-19 cases throughout the day on its website.

There have been 5,365 lab-confirmed cases, and 4,132 of those are resolved.

However, 34 people remain in hospital with eight now in the ICU.

In the city, 875 cases remain active, but resolved cases are now at 3,978. The 10-19 year-olds come in thire with 15 mew cases.

Newfoundland and Labrador and Nova Scotia each reported three new cases on Saturday. By taking action ahead of the long weekend, we will help contain the spread in these hotspots, protect the surrounding communities, shield our seniors and most vulnerable, and contain the second wave surge.
