Some in GOP dispute Trump, say they'd accept if he loses”

The ballots are out of control, you know it, and you know, who knows it better than anybody else? 'And at noon on Jan 20,2021 we will peacefully swear in the President'.

- Retired General Paul Selva, once one of Trump's top military advisers, is joining a large group of former Pentagon leaders to publicly endorse Trump's Democratic rival Joe Biden, according to a letter seen by Reuters.

Cheney, who is the third-highest ranking House Republican, tweeted Thursday the peaceful transfer of power is "enshrined in our Constitution and fundamental to the survival of our Republic".

"People wonder about the peaceful transfer of power", he said.

Mr Trump has for months criticised mail-in voting this November by tweeting and speaking out critically about the practice.

Trump said during a Wednesday news conference, "We're going to have to see what happens", responding to a question about committing to the results.

"The victor of the November 3rd election will be inaugurated on January 20th", McConnell said in a tweet.

It's unlikely that any chaos in states with universal mail-in voting will cause the election result to be inaccurately tabulated, as Trump has suggested. "Do you commit to making sure that there is a peaceful transferal of power?"

He continued: "What we heard from President Trump tonight rings of rhetoric we hear from dictators around the world".

"You know that I've been complaining very strongly about the ballots, and the ballots are a disaster".

He will announce the Supreme Court nominee on Saturday afternoon and has said he wants a full Senate vote before Election Day, which falls on November 3, a move meant to fire up his supporters. And he appeared to suggest that if states got "rid of the unsolicited mailing of ballots there would be no concern about a peaceful transfer of power. The Democrats know it better than anybody else", the president said as he refused to entertain any other question from the same journalist.

His statement elicited scorn from his Democratic challenger Joe Biden and even from within his own party.

Biden was at a loss for words when asked how he felt about the president's comments.

"What country are we in?"

"I am concerned that our constitutional rights are being infringed upon from within", he added.

"I still don't, fully, fully, appreciate exactly how tough it is and that fact is, one of the most important things to do is put black men and women in the position where they can accumulate wealth.
No, I'm not going to just say 'yes.' I'm not going to say 'no.' And I didn't last time, either".

The president made the comment as some of his fiercest critics have accused him of making moves toward authoritarianism. "And the United States government is perfectly capable of escorting trespassers out of the White House".

The president faces the backdrop of ongoing investigations by prosecutors in NY that could implicate the president if he were to leave office.
