After months without fans, Atlanta arena springs to life with early voters”

"Amidst the many other serious concerns facing the public in this challenging era, issues surrounding election system security, reliability, fairness, and the correct counting of votes continue on the forefront of citizen concerns", she wrote.

Election officials in the metro Atlanta region and surrounding counties said while it is not unusual to see long lines on the first day of early voting, some locations had remarkably long waits.

With record turnout expected for this year's presidential election and fears about exposure to the coronavirus, election officials and advocacy groups have been encouraging people to vote early, either in person or by absentee ballot.

In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, USA election officials have been calling upon Americans to cast their votes as early as possible, either through absentee voting or by going to polls in person.

A reporter for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution posted a video of voters in the town of Suwanee, about 45 minutes outside of Atlanta, in a line that stretched around a block.

"We're maxing out both of those", she said.

Atlanta's State Farm Arena, the state's largest early voting site, which has 300 voting machines, also briefly encountered technical issues, WABE also reported, that lasted about an hour.

The idea of turning State Farm Arena into a polling place started with Atlanta Hawks CEO Steve Koonin, majority owner Anthony Ressler and head coach Lloyd Pierce, the outspoken chair of the NBA's racial justice committee.

The election is in just 22 days but people across the nation have already cast their ballots.

Carter said he and his wife considered voting by absentee ballots but were spooked by allegations that Trump's postmaster general was trying to sabotage mail-in voting to help the president, who has repeatedly said, without evidence, that the practice was ripe for voter fraud.

Anticipating the long lines, Columbus resident Marvin Broadwater Sr. arrived at the Citizens Service Center three hours before doors opened at 7 a.m., WRBL reported.

Some voters, like Charles Clay, of Twinsburg, made a decision to skip the line altogether and dropped off his absentee ballot in the drop-box outside the board of elections. People stood 6 feet apart and wore masks, Clark said.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump Jr. was set to rally Republican voters in Savannah near the coast and Kennesaw, just outside Atlanta.
