Teen one step from becoming first millennial saint

Teen one step from becoming first millennial saint”

Acutis was buried in Assisi at his personal requests, having change into an admirer of St. Francis of Assisi for his dedication to the poor.

"The Church rejoices, because in this very young Blessed the Lord's words are fulfilled: "I have chosen you and appointed you to go and bear much fruit.' And Carlo 'went" and brought the fruit of holiness, showing it as a goal reachable by all and not as something abstract and reserved for a few", the cardinal said.

While still in elementary school, Acutis taught himself to code using a university computer science textbook, and then learned how to edit videos and create animation.

"In these recent months of solitude and distancing, we have been experiencing the most positive aspect of the internet - a communication technology for which Carlo had a special talent".

"He said it was better to have one less pair of shoes if it meant being able to do one more good work", she said. Acutis' beatification was first announced in June, after the teen was said to have conducted his first miracle in February.

He was put on the road to sainthood after Pope Francis approved a miracle attributed to Acutis: The healing of a 7-year-old Brazilian boy from a rare pancreatic disorder after coming into contact with an Acutis relic, a piece of one of his T-shirts. He is the first "millennial" to be beatified by the Catholic Church.

"Having a friend who is about to become a saint is a very odd emotion", Pastorelli told CNA Oct. 10.

"Young people might have been exhausted of a pastoral ministry that's maybe a bit out of step with the times despite all its efforts, but the Lord intervenes in history and human affairs and gives us these guiding lights", priest and Assisi Convent spokesman Enzo Fortunato said during the ceremony.

Because two confirmed miracles are needed for someone to become a saint, Acutis has one left to conduct - though Pope Francis does have the ability to waive this rule. Many watched on screens that were spread throughout the town's piazzas as a church official read a letter from Pope Francis that declared Carlo "blessed".

Those signs of modernity resonated with many young people who see themselves in him, said Paul Jarzembowski, who leads the US Council for Catholic Bishops' youth and young adult ministries.

"We must promote the integration of women in the places where important decisions are made", he said.

Born in London to Italian parents, Carlo moved to Milan with his family as a child, his mother said.

"It is lovely that this news comes as we prepare for the feast of Corpus Christi", Archbishop Sorrentino said. He attended daily Mass from the time he was 7, never missing a day, she said. Writing to young people past year, he commended Carlo as an example for his use of the internet and quoted him as saying, "Everyone is born as an original, but many people end up dying as photocopies". "Don't let that happen to you!" he said.

"His witness shows today's young people that true happiness is found by putting God first and serving Him in our brothers, especially the least".

At Carlo's funeral, the church overflowed with people whose lives he had touched, she said.
