Telangana records 1,717 COVID cases, 5 deaths”

The health ministry on Tuesday raised India's confirmed total to more than 7.18 million cases but said the country was showing a trend of declining daily cases over the last five weeks.

In the US, almost 7.8 million cases had been reported and more than 215,000 people had died as of Monday, according to Johns Hopkins University data. Notably, this is the first time in two months when India has witnessed around 55,000 Covid-19 cases in 24 hours and the fifth day in a row when the active cases of Covid-19 remained below 9 lakh.

Thurston County added 21 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the total to 1,466, county public health officials reported.

India, home to almost 1.4 billion people, is second in the world in total COVID-19 cases, behind only the United States, which is approaching the 8 million mark.

India's 5-day moving average of daily rate of addition to total cases stands at 1.1%.

With 2,12,905 active cases, Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state by COVID-19 in the country.

India on Sunday conducted 994,851 coronavirus tests, and had a test positivity rate of 6.7%. West Bengal has been witnessing the highest-ever 24-hour percentage rise in Covid-19 infections for the last fifteen days.

Tamil Nadu has 43,747 active cases, with 6,07,203 recoveries, alongside 10,314 fatalities.

On Monday, India's Covid-19 tally went past 71-lakh with 66,732 fresh cases, while the number of people who have recuperated crossed 61 lakh.

"Higher number of single-day recoveries is also reflected in the continuous increase in the national recovery rate, which is at present 86.78 percent", the ministry said.

Maximum deaths were reported from Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh, which together accounted for nearly 57 per cent of all fatalities.
