Crew Dragon launch delayed

Rescheduled for early-to-mid November, the SpaceX Crew-1 mission will carry three NASA astronauts-Michael Hopkins, Victor Glover, and Shannon Walker-and JAXA specialist Soichi Noguchi to the International Space Station.

We hope you weren't planning to spend Halloween watching NASA and SpaceX launch the first Crew Dragon operational mission. The launch was originally scheduled for October 31 at NASA's Kennedy Space Centre in Florida.

The upcoming Crew-1 mission follows the successful completion of the history-making Demo-2 mission earlier this year, where SpaceX ferried a pair of NASA astronauts to and from the International Space Station (SS) in its Crew Dragon capsule. NASA did not identify the specific launch attempt in question, but an October 2 launch of a Falcon 9 carrying a Global Positioning System 3 satellite was scrubbed just two seconds before liftoff because of SpaceX Chief Executive Elon Musk later described as an "unexpected pressure rise in the turbomachinery gas generator".

NASA is pushing the launch back to give SpaceX time to complete hardware testing and data reviews to evaluate 'off-nominal behavior of Falcon 9 first stage engine'.

SpaceX provides few details about technical problems but in this case, founder Elon Musk tweeted the abort was triggered by an "unexpected pressure rise" in a first-stage engine turbopump mechanism.

'With the high cadence of missions SpaceX performs, it really gives us incredible insight into this commercial system and helps us make informed decisions about the status of our missions'. She said an investigation into the problem is ongoing "and we should be a lot smarter within the coming week". They also will conduct a variety of spacewalks and welcome crews of the Russian Soyuz vehicle and the next SpaceX Crew Dragon in 2021, NASA said.

Meanwhile, SpaceX says it shipped the first Crew Dragon-derived Cargo Dragon to Florida several days ago, meaning that the company will soon begin simultaneous preflight processing of two upgraded Dragons for the first time.

"The Crew-1 mission is a major step for NASA's Commercial Crew Program", the U.S. space program said in a blog announcement.

NASA said the issue with the Crew-1 mission will not delay another Falcon 9 launch, of the Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich Earth observation satellite, scheduled for November 10 from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.

MOSCOW (AP) - A trio of space travelers has launched successfully to the International Space Station, for the first time using a fast-track maneuver to reach the orbiting outpost in just three hours.

The event marks the first time an global crew will fly aboard a NASA-certified, commercially-owned and operated American rocket and spacecraft from American soil.

The Crew Dragon mission was pushed back from October 31 into November, and no new date has been set yet.

NASA is expected to commission the spacecraft to regularly shuttle astronauts to and from the global space station.
