Ole Gunnar Solskjaer still has options as Edinson Cavani ruled out”

United legend Paul Scholes and former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie Redknapp have criticised the Old Trafford club for signing the Uruguayan.

Cavani, a deadline day signing who joined United on a free transfer from Paris St Germain last week, must self-isolate for 14 days after arriving in the United Kingdom due to the guidelines in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Paul Scholes believes his former teammate Edwin van der Sar would be the ideal director of football for Manchester United.

Both Greenwood and Martial have been mainstay squad players for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the Norwegian continues his rebuilding bid at the club.

Manchester United suffered a massive 6-1 defeat at the hands of Tottenham in their previous game in the Premier League.

Manchester United's new No 7 has had a long and storied football career.

'The problem with United's forwards is that none of them is an actual centre-forward.

He's not played a lot of football for PSG last season. Five or six years ago, great signing, he'd take us on to the next level, but I just don't think so [now].

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Edinson Cavani said the pair of Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood will flourish at Man United should the two improve on their work rate.

Scholes' comments come after he previously praised Martial's transformation into a centre-forward following the club's victory over FC Copenhagen in the Europa League last season, the 24-year-old impressing as United beat the Danish side 1-0 to advance to the semi-finals.

"Martial nearly conned us into thinking he was one at the end of last season because he scored so many goals and was quite good".

"That's why I've kept saying we need a top-class number nine".

"If you're struggling without a centre-forward it should be a two or three-month loan signing just to get through a sticky period".
