NASA and SpaceX delay Crew-1 mission to the ISS until November”

- The U.S. space agency NASA has postponed the SpaceX Crew-1 mission to the International Space Station (ISS) to "no sooner than early-to-mid November", the agency announced.

"My physical and cognitive abilities will be challenged but I want to compete with the younger generation by duping them with my experience", joked the 55-year-old from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency about his upcoming ISS mission on the Crew Dragon spacecraft developed by US aerospace manufacturer SpaceX.

In a statement posted Saturday, the agency said that there had been "off-nominal behaviour" of the Falcon 9 first stage engine gas generators during a recent non-NASA mission launch attempt.

The Crew-1 mission is set to use one of the rockets to travel to the International Space Station (ISS) and NASA wants to ensure there are no issues when it launches. On October 10, Associate Administrator of NASA's Human Exploration and Operations Mission Directorate, Kathy Lueders confirmed on Twitter that the agency was now targeting early-to-mid November.

What are your thoughts on the mission led by NASA and SpaceX?

Ever since the Space Shuttle program was canceled in 2011, NASA had to rely on Russian Soyuz spacecraft to transport crew to the ISS.

The engine problems appeared during the firm's October 2 launch that was set to also take a Global Positioning System satellite to space.

Crew-1 mission with Crew Dragon is of special importance for NASA. Company officers had earlier deliberate to conduct the launch on the finish of this month, by SpaceX's Crew Dragon capsule spacecraft.

Crew-1 was set to take off at 2:40am ET from Cape Canaveral, Florida, which follows the successful Demo-2 test flight in May that was manned by NASA astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley.

"With the excessive cadence of missions SpaceX performs, it actually provides us unbelievable perception into this industrial system and helps us make knowledgeable choices in regards to the standing of our missions".

'The teams are actively working this finding on the engines, and we should be a lot smarter within the coming week'.

During their stay the crew will see unpiloted spacecraft bound for the ISS and conduct spacewalks.

It is the second delay of the space mission carried out by SpaceX, since the first was scheduled for early October, but it was postponed so as not to interfere with Expedition 63/64, which will be launched from Russian Federation with two cosmonauts and a woman astronaut.

That said, the CRS-21 and Crew-1 are now expected to be released in about two weeks, which can lead to some unique issues.

SpaceX owns the rocket, but NASA has full knowledge of the company's launch and testing data, Leuders noted. The Soyuz MS-17 spacecraft flew NASA astronauts Kate Rubins and Roscosmos cosmonauts Sergei Ryzykov and Sergei Kud-Sverchkov three hours east of Kazakhstan's Bekonur Cosmodrome at 1:45 a.m. October 14. It will be a 6-months mission and was initially planned by SpaceX with NASA under a contract in 2014 which was made to bring private sector companies to NASA's program. Their arrival on SpaceX's new passenger vehicle will bring the total population of the ISS to seven - a larger cohort than usual for the ISS, which has typically held six-person crews since the end of the Space Shuttle program.
