Leonardo DiCaprio joins insanely star-studded cast for new Netflix film”

Joining Lawrence and the previously announced Cate Blanchett and Rob Morgan will be Leonardo DiCaprio, Timothée Chalamet, Jonah Hill, Himesh Patel, Ariana Grande, Kid Cudi, Matthew Perry, and Tomer Sisley.

The extremely star-studded film is produced by Adam McKay's who also made The Other Guys and The Big Short and is about two scientists (Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio) on a media tour of the world trying to warn everyone about a potentially apocalyptic meteor. It's a safe bet that this movie's asteroid is a very on-the-nose metaphor for climate change, but McKay has worked wonders with broad themes in the early part of his career. "She's what folks in the 17th century used to call 'a dynamite act.' And the fact that Netflix sees this movie as a worldwide comedy sets the bar high for me and my team in an exciting and motivating way".

Apparently, most of the cast have been loosely attached for quite a while, but DiCaprio wasn't sure he'd be able to commit when he still had Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon on his schedule. The film is slated to start shooting before year end.

More news: Deaths linked to COVID-19 are undercounted

"I don't think it's a "Step Brothers"-type of comedy", McKay said".

McKay, whose last film Vice told the story of former U.S. vice president Dick Cheney, says he wanted to work on something a bit lighter as a palette cleanser. "I would compare it more to somewhere between the Mike Judge stuff and 'Wag the Dog.' A hard amusing satire is what we're going for".
