Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross gets styling revisions for 2022”

In North America, the gasoline model will debut in the first quarter of 2021; there are no plans at this time to add the PHEV model for that market.

Launched new for 2018 to compete with the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4, the Eclipse Cross wears a new face with redesigned lights.

"Besides the contemporary exterior and comfortable and smart interior, MITSUBISHI MOTORS' legendary Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC) system ensures that drivers are always in control for their next adventure", said Minoru Uehara, chief product specialist of MMC. For Mitsubishi, this represents the most forward-looking and sophisticated design it has ever put together in a utility model. The result is a vehicle that looks sleek, stable, upscale and unique.

The changes upfront are less radical at first glance as Mitsubishi has retained the basic "shield" theme of its predecessor, but the front end has been redesigned with slimmer headlights, a resculpted bumper and a new grille, which is now finished in black rather than chrome.

At the rear, the tailgate hatch and rear window have been redesigned, with an nearly hexagonal-shaped impression on the middle of the tailgate. The three-dimensional taillamps have been extended upwards and inwards to enhance the Cross's appearance of stability and width. The tailgate has also been rejigged to feature a sharply sculpted hexagonal design; a nod to the company's iconic rear spare tyre mount used on models such as the Pajero. The door trims also match the colour of the seats.

Suspension tweaks including tweaked spring rates and larger-diameter rear shocks round out the mechanical changes to the 2021 Eclipse Cross. The layout has been altered slightly as well, positioning the new 8-inch smartphone-link display audio (SDA) system close to the driver and front passenger. There's also a new eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system (with physical volume and tuning knobs!) and the previous model's touchpad has been eliminated entirely.

Mitsubishi's newest PHEV comes with three automatically selected driving modes to suit various conditions, including EV, Series Hybrid, or Parallel Hybrid. A thoroughly modern design, the MIVEC engine is all-aluminum for light weight, and perfectly balances the seemingly distinct priorities of power and efficiency.

Other grades will be available with the existing 1.5-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine developing 110kW at 5500rpm and 250Nm from 2000-3500rpm, mated to a continuously-variable automatic transmission.
