Twitter Alters Policy On Hacked Content After Blocked Biden Story”

"Straight blocking of URLs was wrong, and we updated our policy and enforcement to fix", he tweeted.

Twitter said the video violated its rules against posting private information, adding the account may need to delete the post in order to continue tweeting.

Twitter said late Thursday it was changing its policy on hacked content after an outcry from conservatives about its handling of an unverified political story on Hunter Biden.

Vijaya Gadde, the global lead for legal, policy, and trust and safety at Twitter, claimed the company will be making "changes to the policy and how we enforce it" after Twitter began banning accounts that tweeted links to the stories, including members of Congress and from congressional servers.

"After reflecting on this feedback, we have decided to make changes to the policy and how we enforce it", Gadde said on her account.

The move comes hard on the heels of the company's decision to restrict sharing of a New York Post article this week - which reported on claims that laptop hardware left at a fix shop contained emails and other data belonging to Hunter Biden, the son of USA presidential candidate Joe Biden. The story has not been confirmed by other publications. While the Biden report has raised eyebrows from many because of its sketchy sourcing, Dorsey has admitted already that Twitter did not optimally handle the situation.

To explain the decision, Twitter pointed to its hacked materials policy, which said users can not "directly distribute content obtained through hacking that contains private information". But it didn't alert its users as to why they couldn't share the link until hours later.

The reversal comes after Twitter blocked users from sharing a New York Post report on Wednesday that said Hunter Biden introduced his dad, former Vice President and current Democratic nominee Joe Biden, to a "top executive" at a Ukrainian energy company, before pressuring Ukrainian lawmakers to fire a prosecutor looking into the company a year later.

In a tweet announcing the fundraising totals, Tim Murtaugh, the campaign's communications director, wrote, "President Trump hits final stretch with strength, resources, record & huge ground game needed to spread message and secure re-election".

Facebook said it was "reducing" the story's distribution on its platform while waiting for third-party fact-checkers to verify it, something it regularly does with material that's not banned outright from its service, though it risks spreading lies or causing harm in other ways.
