Twitter is investigating widespread outage reports”

Twitter was experiencing an outage for many users in parts of the US and Europe on Thursday.

The cause of Thursday evening's outage is not known as of yet.

According to DownDetector.com, which tracks outages across the internet, the outage affected more than 22,000 users on the social media platform around 5:30 p.m. ET. and then rose to 55,000 shortly after 6 p.m.

In July, Twitter had reported a breach where hackers accessed its internal systems to hijack some of the platform's top voices, including US presidential candidate Joe Biden and reality TV star Kim Kardashian, and used them to solicit digital currency. NY time on Thursday when users were unable to send any new tweets.

"We know people are having trouble tweeting and using Twitter", a company rep told Variety. "Please try again later" and "Something went wrong, but don't fret - let's give it another shot" errors.

When trying to access Twitter's website, users were seeing "Something went wrong" errors, as well as other messages stating that Twitter is aware of the problem and is working on restoring access.
