Health officials announce 155 new coronavirus cases in BC”

"This is a young child under five who has been diagnosed with MIS-C once their serology test came back positive for COVID-19 this week", Henry said.

There have been no new COVID-19 related deaths, for a total of 250 deaths in British Columbia.

Bonnie Henry reports that there are 3,974 cases in Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), 5,800 in Fraser Health, 239 on Vancouver Island, 587 in Interior Health and 345 in Northern Health.

Henry said the case is a good reminder that while COVID-19 is generally less severe in children, no age group is immune from suffering serious illness caused by the novel coronavirus.

There have been no new health-care facility outbreaks. The outbreak at Kin Village has been declared over. leaving 15 active outbreaks in long-term care and assisted living and two in acute care units of hospitals. One new community outbreak has been announced at a Tim Hortons location in Merritt, B.C. Public alerts and notifications are posted on the BC Centre for Disease Control's (BCCDC) website and on all health authorities' websites.

Currently, there are 3,683 people under active public health monitoring.

The provincial election is just over one week away and advanced voting is available throughout the province.

"Another important preventive measure is to get an influenza vaccine this fall", said Provincial Health Officer, Dr.Bonnie Henry, "vaccines are arriving in B.C. now and over the coming weeks".

"If you are planning on voting in person, keep in mind to give others the space to stay safe when going to vote, wash your hands before and after voting, and consider using a mask if distancing is a challenge", the pair said.

For those who may be self-isolating and looking to vote they can contact Elections BC at 1-800-661-8683 for more information and assistance.

"One of the best things that we can do to protect ourselves and those around us is to pay close attention to how we are feeling, by doing our own personal health check each day".
