Man Incorrectly Pronounced Dead And Rescued From Mortuary Freezer Has Now Died”

In a weird incident, a 74-year-old man who had been rescued from a freezer in Tamil Nadu after spending over 24 hours inside the box alive, died on Friday.

An elderly man, who was recently kept in a freezer box while he was still alive, by his relatives, died during the early hours of Friday.

Kumar was later admitted to hospital in a drowsy condition and later died of lung failure, according to Dr Balajinathan, the dean of the government hospital in Salem, Tamil Nadu.

He said doctors had no information about how long the patient stayed inside the freezer and whether his death was related to that.

Salem police chief Senthil Kumar said the family had been unable to produce a medical certificate for Mr Balasubramanyam's death. A case of negligence has been registered against the family.

After he was pronounced dead on Monday, his family took his body home and called a local undertaker to send a freezer box.

They have been booked under Indian Penal Code Section 287 for negligent conduct to endanger human life and Section 336 for an act of endangering life or personal safety of others, according to The Independent.

The district administration has ordered a probe against the private hospital which issued a death certificate when Kumar was alive.

Mr Balasubramanyam lived with his wife, two daughters and his brother.

Deivalingam, an advocate who provides free vehicles to carry bodies, told a news channel that Balasubramania's family had told him that they were waiting for him to die.

The funeral company said they were told by Balasubramanyam's brother that he had "a signed letter of a doctor regarding his demise".
