Dr. Fauci was 'absolutely not' surprised that Trump got COVID-19”

Fauci said he anxious when he saw Trump mingling with guests with no masks at a White House event, which Fauci has labelled a "super-spreader" event.

Donald Trump complained to his campaign staff about the government's top infectious disease expert, Anthony Fauci, including him among people he considers "idiots", but said he couldn't fire him because of public perception. At least 11 people who attended the event have since tested positive for the coronavirus.

Fauci said during an interview on CBS' "60 Minutes" that was aired on Sunday, "I was anxious that he was going to get sick when I saw him in a completely precarious situation of crowded - no separation between people, and nearly nobody wearing a mask".

"I got really ticked off", he said, stressing that his words were taken out of the context.

Nearly no one was pictured wearing masks at the event, and senior officials were shown shaking hands and hugging each other.

Trump announced he tested positive for the virus on October 2, the Advance/SILive.com reported.

Trump and Fauci, a member of his coronavirus task force, have been at odds over how best to handle a pandemic that has killed more than 219,000 people in the United States and weakened the president's bid for re-election on Nov 3. He said that nothing good could come out of that.

The president was hospitalized for 72 hours at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. He also posed for a mask-less photo-op on the White House balcony, sending a message to his supporters that he was not afraid of the disease.

Reporters on the call said Trump called each of Dr. Fauci's media appearances a "bomb", but mused that firing him would cause more political fallout. especially this close to the election.
