Kings XI Punjab beat Mumbai Indians after 2 Super Overs

Kings XI Punjab beat Mumbai Indians after 2 Super Overs”

On the last ball of the over, Bumrah delivered a flawless yorker and trapped Rahul LBW and helped MI restrict KXIP to 5/2. It was the super Sunda's second match that was decided through a Super Over decider, as earlier in the day, Kolkata Knight Riders had pipped SunRisers Hyderabad in Abu Dhabi. The left-hander continued his good run of form to bring up his third successive half-century and did a fine rebuilding job with Krunal Pandya after MI lost three wickets in the powerplay, with not more than 43 runs on the board.

However, Chris Jordan, who had leaked 20 runs to Pollard and Nathan Coulter-Nile in the 20th over of the regulation time resulting in Mumbai Indians' total swelling to 176 for six, conceded just 11 runs.

However, what transpired after that was a treat to the eyes as Kieron Pollard (unbeaten 34 off 12) and Coulter-Nile (24 not out off 12) collected 54 runs in the last three overs to take their side to an imposing total on a hard double-paced track.

This was after Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Nicholas Pooran and KL Rahul in the first Super Over to leave MI with a six-run target. But Mayank Agarwal and Chris Gayle scored 15 runs without any loss in the second Super Over to add two crucial points to their tally and keep their play-off hopes alive.

Chasing 177, Rahul, who now holds the orange cap, blasted seven fours and three sixes in his knock to cross 500 runs this season and nearly single-handedly take KXIP home.

A fortuitous Jordan boundary second ball, inside edged down to fine leg, made it Kings XI's game to lose.

Hooda and Jordan though made sure that KXIP stayed in the hunt before the latter got out on the final ball, with scores levelled.

Batting first in the Super Over, KL Rahul and Nicholas Pooran could score only 5 runs off Jasprit Bumrah, thus opposition batsmen Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock had to make 6 runs off 6 deliveries by Mohammed Shami.

De Kock then picked up a four and a six off M Ashwin and then ran a single to complete his fourth fifty of this IPL.

Agarwal was there and jumped as the ball went over his head before somehow managing to claw it back into play, turning a certain six into just two. Instead the throw came in, low and hard for the wicketkeeper to deal with but Rahul dived and flicked the ball onto the stumps to run out the diving De Kock by half a foot. Former cricketers, experts hailed the match between Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab the greatest T20 game, while Yuvraj Singh asked on Twitter was this better than the greatest game of all - the World Cup 2019.

Promoted up the order, Krunal deposited Jordan's third ball over deep extra cover and then picked up a four off Maxwell in the next over.
