Nokia and NASA to Build First Ever LTE Network on the Moon

Nokia and NASA to Build First Ever LTE Network on the Moon”

NASA, the US-based space agency, has teamed up with Nokia's research arm, Bell Labs to bring 4G LTE connectivity on the moon.

According to details, the USA space agency is trying to improve the communication links between the astronauts, which is why they chose to help Nokia in this work. "The system could support lunar surface communications at greater distances, increased speeds, and provide more reliability than current standards", said NASA. NASA has thoughtfully selected a handful of 14 American companies along with several small businesses to develop a varied range of technologies that will assist and ensure the success of Artemis operations on Moon. An astronaut posts handsome shots of the Moon from space and streams videos in vacuum.

NASA is planning to take a walk on the moon sometime in 2020 and this time it might just take Nokia's help to communicate up there.

NASA says that the idea of installing 4G and 5G network on the Moon has been inspired by the "terrestrial technology". The development was announced by both NASA and Bell Labs separately on October 15. "By building the first high-performance wireless network solution on the Moon, Nokia Bell Labs is once again planting the flag for pioneering innovation beyond the conventional limits".

It is added that the network developed has been specially created to withstand the extreme temperature, radiation and vacuum conditions of space, as well as the sizable vibrational impact during launch and landing on the lunar surface. It is simply because NASA wants to "build up an array of mission-ready capabilities to support a sustainable presence on the Moon and future human missions to Mars", as per an official statement. The address the problems of energy storage, communications, surface power generation and others.
