President Trump, ‘lock her up’ chants incite ‘domestic terrorism,’ MI governor says”

The controversial attack against Michigan's governor arises roughly a week after it was revealed that the Federal Bureau of Investigation had arrested 13 alleged domestic terrorists for conspiring to kidnap and kill Governor Whitmer.

Gretchen Whitmer has criticized Michigan's MAGA fans and President Trump for a chorus of "lock her up" chants, saying that rhetoric has endangered her family. The governor herself responded on Sunday during an appearance on NBC's "Meet the Press" where she accused the president of inciting "domestic terrorism".

"It's got to end".

Whitmer wrote on Twitter on Saturday: "This is exactly the rhetoric that has put me, my family, and other government officials' lives in danger while we try to save the lives of our fellow Americans. People of good will on both sides of the aisle need to step up and call this out and bring the heat down". Whitmer said after the arrests that Trump's language gives comfort to these kinds of militia groups.

Miller went on to add that he's "glad that President Trump's DOJ was able to get these psychopaths and put them away", referring to the 14 charged suspects in the foiled kidnapping plot targeting Whitmer, before reiterating that "people in MI want to get their state open back up".

The crowd responded with chants of "lock her up", a refrain of a phrase used against then-candidate Hillary Clinton during the 2016 campaign.

Donald Trump campaigned in Nevada on Sunday, receiving a blessing from pastors at a Las Vegas church who appeared to pray for his re-election.

In a CNN interview the same day, Lara Trump, the president's daughter-in-law and a campaign adviser, defended comments from the rally, saying the president was "just having fun".

Fox 17 reported that as of Sunday, 14 men had been charged with conspiracy to kidnap and kill Whitmer, but only five of those cases have been approved by the courts, thus far, to move forward.

Some of the Wolverine Watchmen are accused of planning other violent crimes, such as storming the Michigan Capitol building and attacking law enforcement officers.
