1,283 new Covid-19 cases confirmed, three further deaths”

A record number of new Covid-19 cases has been reported in Ireland this evening.

As of 2pm today, 298 people are now receiving treatment in hospital for the virus after 20 new admissions in the past 24 hours.

Stearns County had one of those deaths, a person in their upper 90s, brining the county total to 35.

In Douglas County, 2,374 out of the 2,740 cases are inactive or beyond the infectious period, according to Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health, meaning 366 cases are active.

It brings the total number of cases in the six counties to 27,220 while the death toll there now stands at 615. The county's testing rate per 1,000 people was 266.2. If the positivity rate stays above 8% on Tuesday, the region will be subject to enhanced mitigations, which have included closing indoor dining and bar service. The region needs three days in a row of a rolling average of less than 6.5% to have the restrictions lifted. The region's positivity rate increased from 8.4% to 8.5%.

According to county data, the city of DeKalb reports between 1,071 to 1,075 cases.

Some 68% of today's cases are under the age of 45 with the median age being 31. Sadly, five deaths were also reported within this period. Numbers vary between state and health departments because of data lags.

There have now been a total of 1,852 deaths in the coronavirus pandemic in Ireland, and a total of 49,962 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state.

Within this region, Kane County's rolling seven-day positivity average increased from 10.7% to 10.9%. There have been 38,500 COVID-19 tests conducted to date in the county.
