George Clooney nearly played Ryan Gosling's character in The Notebook”

It sounds like The Notebook could have been much different!

The movie was released nearly a decade later in 2004, with Ryan Gosling in the role Clooney eyed for himself opposite Rachel McAdams.

During a virtual chat for the 64th British Film Institute (BFI) London Film Festival, the 59-year-old star said he was originally going to portray the character Noah Calhoun, which later went to Ryan Gosling, while Newman was set to portray him as an older man, Deadline reported.

'We were going to do The Notebook together, ' Clooney explained. "Fundamentally, I was planning to play with him as a young guy, also it was amusing". We met and said, "This is it". I'm pregnant.' I'm like, 'Great.' And then I go, 'Okay, that complicates things, ' " Clooney said.

But George said it didn't work out because he thought about it and it didn't make sense. We met up [again] and I said, "I can't play you". I don't look anything like you. "This is insane.' We just wanted to do it because we wanted to work together".

However, it never was later George understood he did not seem anything like a younger Paul. That's why James Garner and Gena Rowlands also starred in the film as older versions of Noah and Allie.

Clooney is now busy promoting his upcoming movie "The Midnight Sky".

The Midnight Sky, based on a novel by Lily Brooks-Dalton and directed by Clooney, follows Augustine (Clooney), a lonely scientist in the Arctic racing to stop a group of fellow astronauts (led by Felicity Jones) from returning to earth after a global catastrophe decimates humanity.

Thank goodness he did - we just can't imagine The Notebook without Ryan.

In this challenging time, it's really hard to be separated from family and friends.
