Jeff Bridges reveals Lymphoma diagnosis”

Jeff Bridges, the Oscar-winning actor best known for playing a stoner bowler in "The Big Lebowski", announced Monday that he has been diagnosed with lymphoma. He has just started his treatment, and promises to keep everyone updated on his recovery.

Bridges added that while he has a "serious disease" he feels "fortunate" to have a "great team of doctors". "Thank you for your prayers and well wishes", he tweeted. "Because we are all in this together". He then urged fans to head to before signing off his message with "Love, Jeff".

"Our thoughts go out to Jeff and his family during this challenging time and they have our love and support". Even if The Dude might have said "F- sympathy!" at a time like this, we wish him the speediest recovery possible.

Bridges was now filming the Hulu drama The Old Man, where he plays a retired Central Intelligence Agency officer.

According to the Mayo Clinic, "lymphoma is a cancer of the lymphatic system, which is part of the body's germ-fighting network".

Hollywood actor Jeff Bridges took to Twitter on Tuesday to reveal that he has been diagnosed with lymphoma. Lymphoma treatment usually involves chemotherapy, various medications, radiation therapy and, in rare cases, can require a stem cell transplant.

Bridges, a famously laid-back screen veteran who made his film debut in the early 1970s, has been nominated for seven Academy Awards, including a nod for his role in the melancholic coming-of-age drama "The Last Picture Show".

While Bridges has had an acclaimed career for nearly 50 years - including seven Oscar nominations and one win for 2009's Crazy Heart - he told PEOPLE his family has been his life's greatest joy.
