Magnitude 7.5 quake strikes off coast of Alaska”

The quake struck south of the Aleutian Islands and has likely triggered a tsunami. Geological Survey reported the 7.5-magnitude quake struck at 1:54 p.m.

While the B.C. government has determined there is no tsunami threat to the province following the natural disaster, a tsunami advisory remains in place for south Alaska and the Alaska Peninsula.

'A series of powerful waves and strong currents may impact coasts near you, ' the alert said.

A 7.5. magnitude natural disaster striking off the Alaska peninsula has prompted a tsunami warning. Stay tuned to The Weather Network as more information comes in.

According to the Associated Press, the tsunami warning prompted schools in the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District to be evacuated to higher ground.

The quake was registered some 55 miles (90km) south of Sand Point, Alaska on Monday, at a depth of almost 25 miles (40km).

"It was a pretty good shaker here", said David Adams, co-manager of Marine View Bed and Breakfast in Sand Point.
