Region's top doctor addresses COVID-19 case spike”

ONE MAN has been linked to at least 56 cases of Covid-19 in Ireland after he returned from overseas.

He later tested positive for COVID-19. Three of these friends infected their families, while another felt unwell and contacted the GP to arrange a Covid-19 test.

The example of how Covid-19 can quickly spread was revealed on Monday in a report published by the Department of Public Health, Mid West, as the region surpassed its 3,000th case.

However, after having the test the following morning, she chose to attend a friend's party after "she felt a bit better".

The total number of people infected, including family, friends and members of a sports team, was 56. In Ukraine, he tested positive for the virus and got hospitalized.

One of the extended family members of the index case who had no symptoms played a match with his local team, and a number of his team mates were infected as a result, and a number of his team mates went onto infect a number of others. "The team members then went on to infect a number of people", the report explained.

The tally of active cases on Monday dropped slightly to 22,570 from 23,292 the previous day.

Yesterday, 1,283 new cases of Covid-19 were identified in a 24 hour period.

In addition to asking citizens to continue to follow health protocols, Dr. Chirico also urged people to limit their workouts to the outdoors or in places where physical distancing can be maintained and to avoid any non-essential travel out of the region, especially to places with higher case counts of COVID-19.

Dr Mannix said it was vital that more support staff be recruited to the department of public health, including those to assist with track and trace, and said the nation needed more investment in a national IT case and outbreak management system for public health.
