Sergio Aguero Criticised For Putting Hand On Assistant Referee Sian Massey-Ellis”

Had Massey-Ellis done so, or had Kavanagh witnessed the incident, Aguero would have surely been cautioned for his actions.

Pep Guardiola has come to the defence of Sergio Agüero after the player was criticised for putting his hands on assistant referee Sian Massey-Ellis during Manchester City's win over Arsenal.

But the forward, who is City's all-time leading goalscorer, is out of contract at the end of the season and Guardiola said Aguero had a point to prove if he was to earn a new deal.

"We know what he means for us, we know how we appreciate him, but now he has to show like every one of us, me first, that we deserve to continue here and playing good and winning games".

"Having Aguero on the pitch, we are better, we are safer", he said.

"I think we have to respect that process and that timing for him because he only trained for a day really and there's a lot of new information and different game models for him to understand, and we have to respect that".

Aguero disputed a throw-in call which went against him early in the second half of the Premier League clash at the Etihad Stadium.

Those numbers are amplified since Guardiola took charge in 2016.

The English Premier League could still levy a penalty on Aguero before Man City's next match.

He will be hoping to make his full debut when Arsenal begin their Europa League campaign with an encounter against Rapid Wien on Thursday.
