Trump greets supporters in Washington from motorcade

Trump greets supporters in Washington from motorcade”

At least one stabbing was reported while two officers were injured and several firearms were also recovered by police during the protests. A variety of charges, including assault and weapons possession, were filed against those arrested, officials said. DC police quickly broke up any violence and kept the counter-protesters away from a large contingent of right-wing Proud Boys, who have clashed with Antifa rioters at violent rallies across the country over the last four years.

Earlier in the day, Trump supporters marched through the USA capital in support of his claims of electoral fraud.

President Trump's motorcade passed by the crowd shortly after the event began.

Videos posted on social media showed some demonstrators and counterdemonstrators trading shoves, punches and slaps. Cries of "Stop the Steal" and "Count Every Vote" rang out despite a lack of evidence of voter fraud or other problems that could reverse the result.

According to CNN, there were three separate rallies that converged, all joined in their errant message that the election-assessed by election officials as "the most secure in American history"-was "stolen".

But that didn't stop some of those in attendance from falsely calling Trump the victor of the election or from sharing conspiracy theories about a movement to bring down the current president.

One week after Joe Biden's presidential victory brought about spontaneous celebrations in the nation's capital, a crowd that included the group Women for America First, right-wing activists and conspiracy theorists gathered in the city's downtown near the White House. While the crowd was modest at the outset, the march gained steam in the hours that followed. Police, a lot of them on bikes, have boxed up some of the demonstrators, majority Antifa protesters who are against Donald Trump remaining in the White House, and have been pushing them backwards from the square. On Friday, the USA announced a high in daily coronavirus cases of 184,000.

At least 10,000 people - few wearing masks - massed on the city's Freedom Plaza before marching to the Supreme Court in a raucous atmosphere reminiscent of a Trump campaign rally.

Their chants and cheers tracked Trump's own false claims that he, not Biden, actually won the November 3 election.

The latest vote tallies gave the Democrat Biden a clear win in the state-by-state Electoral College that decides the presidency, with 306 votes against Trump's 232.

Judges in Arizona, Michigan and Pennsylvania on Friday rejected a series of legal challenges by the Trump campaign to seek a review of results in those three states.
