Alex Telles tests negative for coronavirus, available for Brazil’s clash against Uruguay”

'United's medical staff at the Aon Training Complex are monitoring the situation in Brazil and will make an assessment when Telles returns to England later this week.

That match on October 20 remains his only United appearance to date due to a positive coronavirus test, with Telles making his return to action as a stoppage-time substitute in Brazil's 1-0 win against Venezuela on Saturday.

But the Brazilian Football Confederation have confirmed Telles is available to face Uruguay in Tuesday's World Cup qualifier via the following statement on their website: "Thiago Galhardo was listed after Alex Telles' tests were positive for COVID-19". "After a negative result in his last test, Alex Telles will travel with the squad to Uruguay", the CBF said in a statement.

Reports in Brazil had previously stated the 27-year-old defender had tested positive and would not be available to play in the game.

More news: Coronavirus: immunity for six months after contracting the virus

Telles was called-up to the Brazilian squad for their World Cup qualifiers during the current worldwide break and made a substitute appearance during their 1-0 win over Venezuela last Friday night.

United's new £13.6million signing has missed the last five games since making his debut against Paris Saint-Germain a month ago after contracting coronavirus.

So much has been said and written about hierarchal issues at Old Trafford, and how that has impacted recruitment strategy.

Speaking on the Podcast special, James Cooper and Gerard Brand discuss how the transfer committee works at United and ask: have they lost the ability to do the dark arts of recruitment?
