Charlie Brown Specials to Air on TV, After All, in PBS Deal”

Peanuts specialsA Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and A Charlie Brown Christmas, which left their longtime home at ABC for Apple, will return to traditional TV for some special airings this holiday season.

On Wednesday, Apple bowed to the backlash, announcing it had teamed up with PBS for ad-free broadcasts of "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving" (on November 22) and "A Charlie Brown Christmas" (on December 13). The petition ultimately garnered more than 250,000 signatures. Those who want to watch the Peanuts specials on television instead of through the ‌Apple TV‌ app will now be able to do so on select dates.

As previously announced, the classic animated specials will be available on demand on Apple TV+, where "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving" began streaming on Wednesday. The Associated Press says that Apple has "bowed to the backlash" and is now teaming with PBS for several ad-free broadcasts, on November 22 (Thanksgiving) and December 13 (Christmas). The news comes after some pushback against an Apple TV+ exclusive that found the Peanuts cartoons being pulled from TV broadcast. "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving" will air at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, on PBS (OPB for OR viewers) and PBS KIDS. A Charlie Brown Christmas will stream on Apple TV+ on December 4, and will be available for free from December 11 through December 13.

When "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" was exclusively on Apple TV+ last month, it was the first time since 1966 the iconic show was not on network TV.
