Google Announces Three New Google Maps Features Available for Users Today”

It's one of almost 250 features Google has added to Maps since the pandemic began, including a COVID layer introduced in June that provided crucial health info and alerts.

Google today announced an update to Google Maps that includes a number of new COVID-related features, as well as the ability to see the live status of your takeout or delivery orders, as well as the launch of the long-expected new Assistant driving mode. For users who use transit, Google Maps can help by providing live crowdedness information.

In September, Google Maps rolled out a COVID-19 overlay that can show how cases are trending in areas so users can make informed decisions about traveling.

Earlier this year, Google shipped a dedicated layer on Google Maps to see how each region is impacted, and today the company is updating this capability with more information. But while Maps previously just told users how busy they could expect a train to be at certain times, now it tells them how busy the train is right now. You'll see estimated delivery times before you order and you'll be able to track the delivery in real time. Google Maps already provided users with information on how crowded a specific station was, but thanks to this update, similar data is available for transportation lines too, all based on reports submitted by users right from within the app.

And finally, for those planning to order takeout as we lock back down across the globe, Google Maps will be able to show you (below) when your food is ready for pickup or how close it is to arriving on your doorstep.

With cases rising alarmingly fast in the well as the United Kingdom, public transport is a necessity for many, like the essential workers keeping people alive, fed, and safe.
