YouTube Launches Audio Ads

YouTube Launches Audio Ads”

YouTube has started placing ads on videos created by users who are not members of its Partner Program (YPP), though these creators will not get any share of the revenue.

The latest feature is targeted at those you primarily use YouTube as their service of choice for listening to music and podcast. It is quite valid since the website is not providing any share of the revenues it would generate from the ads it is rolling out on small channels.

The new ad format is aimed at helping advertisers targeting a growing user base of users who prefer to listen (such as podcasts or virtual concerts) rather than watching content. YouTube's Audio Ads are now in a beta phase and available through an auction on Google Ads and Display & Video 360 on a CPM basis.

YouTube is also launching "dynamic music lineups".

While helping advertisers is a nice spin, let's be honest, why would a company want to help its advertisers?

The platform did not specify the videos or the creator types that will be affected by the decision.

Creators require videos amounting to 4,000 hours of total watch time in the last 12 months, and have over 1,000 subscribers to be eligible for YPP.

YouTube has announced some game-changing shifts and additions on its Terms of Service. Payouts to users with monetized channels will now be "treated as royalties from a USA tax perspective", according to the update. The company will monitor the impact on creators. YouTube says creators will "generally be unaffected by these withholding taxes" if they provide necessary tax documentation in their Adsense account. The company stated that it wanted to be explicit about what can't be collected in terms of user data with the new update.

Meanwhile, for viewers YouTube has another new development that may ruin the user experience. They're fairly significant, but they sort of flew under the radar for most of the day. The money can be a boon to creators trying to support themselves with content they create specifically for the platform, and the decision to advertise only on videos from creators with larger following had the unintended effect of helping to ensure that ads only wound up on content that advertisers would be more likely to approve of.

Also, the platform will run ads even on channels that don't participate in the Partner Program.
