Whitmer urges bipartisan small business aid as COVID-19 cases surge

Whitmer urges bipartisan small business aid as COVID-19 cases surge”

Almost 3 million MI workers have applied for unemployment benefits since the pandemic began, she said, and more than 600,000 are still receiving benefits.

Three Republican members of Michigan's House of Representatives introduced a bid to impeach Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on Wednesday, accusing her of "corrupt conduct in office" and "exceeding her constitutional authority" for her coronavirus restrictions.

Whitmer's spokesperson Tiffany Brown said on the resolution: 'Gov. On Thursday Whitmer said the restrictions are "targeted and meant to be temporary". Compliance also protects essential medical workers and first responders, Whitmer said. The state now has the fourth highest number of patients hospitalized in the country behind Texas, Illinois and California, Khaldun said.

That's up 7,592 cases and 134 deaths from the day before.

"We flattened the curve in the spring by listening to public health and medical experts", Whitmer said.

Coronavirus cases have been on the rise in MI, which has reported almost 278,000 confirmed cases of the respiratory illness and 8,190 deaths attributed to it. Additionally, she urged residents across the state to show their support by ordering takeout and delivery from local restaurants as well as shopping at local businesses. Now, it is nearing 14% as of the most recent report, though Whitmer said continued movement in the right direction may make it possible to be back to 3% by December 8.

The state is using the 3% rate as a benchmark to highlight where it stood throughout most of the summer, through contained spread. "Every one of us has the power to make choices to contribute to that".

She said it's all dependent on MI residents doing their part. "We are preserving future holiday gatherings together by taking this seriously now, by not gathering with people outside of your household this Thanksgiving. It's an act of kindness and love".

'I have not signed on to any notion of impeachment proceedings, ' Shirkey said Tuesday.

Fear of a worsening crisis prompted Michigan Medicine and more than 100 other US health care systems to launch a public relations campaign aimed at convincing people to wear masks that they say are the best hope of stemming an "alarming increase" in the virus' spread in Michigan and across the nation. "We all know the pandemic will not be over by the end of this year".
